Lughnasadh begins tomorrow! It is the first of the three harvest festivals and my mom and I have been busy getting ready. I updated my music playlist and we’ve been listening to it while we work. (Click on the link to get to my YouTube channel, Pagan Music Playlists.)
I reread my Lughnasadh post from last year, and I had forgotten how much we did! One of my favorite things was making an herb dryer with my mom. We have used it so many times since then! We just dried these wildflowers:
I made lemon zucchini muffins and we had a lovely tea while watching Lughnasadh videos.
These videos give a good overview of Lughnasadh:
This one has some great ideas for ways to celebrate:
I really like the Lughnasadh chant/song on this video:
This one is a podcast with wonderful historical information about Lughnasadh:
Lughnasadh is all about celebrating the abundance of nature and bringing in the first harvest. My mom and I have been gathering wildflowers from our yard and herbs and tomatoes from our garden.
I used most of the wildflowers to make a lovely vegan wildflower honee:
We used the rest of the wildflowers, most of our sage, and some thyme and rosemary to make smudge sticks.
Our tomatoes and peppers are growing really well!
We ate those first tomatoes with ranch dressing and more veggies – they were so good!
The ranch dressing made my mom think of onion dip, so I made that too! (We ate the whole batch in two days!)
The tomatoes and peppers are from our garden!
I used some of the wildflower honee to make whole grain oat crackers for my recipe post in Witchology. If you haven’t heard of Witchology yet, you will definitely want to check it out. It is a wonderful new digital magazine and is full of great articles and beautiful photos! I am really excited to be a contributor to such a fantastic publication!
For Lughnasadh this year, we will be harvesting our garden, baking bread, eating berries and corn, making lots of great food, going on a nature walk, and making corn dollies! We are also having a potluck picnic with our local group, Vegan Pagans of Ohio, on Sunday the 5th of August. (All vegan pagans are welcome to join and we’d love to see you!) I’m making vegan honee grahams and onion dip, and we are also taking potato chips, vegan chocolate, and Dandies marshmallows!
My mom and I wish you many Lughnasadh blessings and hope you have a wonderful celebration!
